National Trust ‘Summer of Play’ is back at Wentworth Castle Gardens from Saturday 18 July to Tuesday 1 September, bringing six weeks of family adventure, creativity, and outdoor fun. Set against the backdrop of a magical castle, secret gardens and wide open spaces, there’s something new to discover every day throughout the summer holidays. Children can enjoy a range of themed play zones designed to spark imagination and encourage exploration. Active play areas offer games and challenges, while nature play spaces let young adventurers climb, balance, and connect with the outdoors. At Stainborough Castle, storytelling play invites families to imagine knights, quests, and magical adventures. There’s also hands-on messy play in the Union Jack Gardens, alongside quiet and sensory spaces for those looking to relax and recharge. A packed programme of pop-up activities adds even more excitement, including favourites such as the teddy zip line and archery, football sessions with Barnsley FC Community Trust and a Silent Disco at Stainborough Castle.
