Base71 Youth Zone
Base71 Youth Zone is the place young people can belong! They can try over 20 activities, including football, boxing, climbing, creative arts, music, drama and employability training.
Located in central Barnsley, opposite the bus station on Schwabisch Gmund Way, the Base71 is staffed by skilled youth workers. This is a space for young people to find mentors, confidants and guides who will empower and champion them, building connections that will pave the way for brighter futures.

The Academy Theatre
The Academy Theatre is a family-run, professional working theatre based in Birdwell, Barnsley. Opened in 2003 by Geoff Whitfield and his daughter Julie, the theatre has grown into a welcoming creative hub with a strong community spirit.
We present an entertaining and varied programme throughout the year, including touring productions, in-house shows, and children’s performances - so there’s always something for everyone. Our building has a unique story too: lovingly converted from a former freezer food shop into a fully equipped theatre space with studios.
With its friendly, informal atmosphere and commitment to quality live performance, The Academy Theatre is a place where audiences of all ages can feel at home and enjoy great theatre together.
