New public art is coming to the Trans Pennine Trail

  • 20/08/25

Celebrating a New Milestone in Britain’s Premier Coast-to-Coast Adventure. The rolling hills, bustling market towns, old railways and canal towpaths of the Trans Pennine Trail will be joined by a new edition on Tuesday 26 August.

A stunning new public artwork entitled ‘Flight Path’ by acclaimed artist Patrick Murphy will be unveiled on Tuesday 26 August.

Flight Path is a captivating sculpture that marks the midpoint of the Trans Pennine Trail, connecting it to RSPB Old Moor Nature Reserve.

It symbolises the interconnectedness of nature and the Trail, inviting people to explore the amazing biodiversity along the way. It celebrates both the landscape and the many visitors who enjoy it.

Made from corten steel, the feature encourages you to take a moment, soak in the surroundings, and listen to the sounds of nature.

Old Moor is a haven for wildlife and a perfect pause point for anyone walking or cycling the Trail. You can listen for Bitterns booming in the spring, watch Marsh Harriers soar over the reeds in summer, and in the Autumn see the ducks and geese return in their hundreds.

With accessible paths, family-friendly activities, a shop and a café with superb views, there’s something to inspire every visitor.

RSPB Old Moor, is one of the many beautiful outdoor sites we have over in Barnsley East. Take a look at our Barnsley East page to discover more and plan your next outdoor adventure.
