Barnsley Book Festival is returning for an exciting second edition! Join us across the borough for a host of brilliant authors, poets, writers and artists to celebrate our shared love for reading.

As part of the diverse programme for 2025, the festival will celebrate themes such as the natural world, new works, and local authors. Audiences will have the opportunity to meet acclaimed poets and writers, as well as discover new authors and their work.
Festival highlights
To kick off the festival with a bang, Concerteenies, an award-winning producer of musical events and activities for young children, will present a musical story of ‘The Big Dreaming’ at Library @ the Lightbox, perfect for families to enjoy.
One of Britain’s best loved writers and performance poets for children and adults Michael Rosen will be joining us for a very special family performance and book signing, which is certainly not to be missed.
The festival will also host acclaimed poets Maria Ferguson and Toria Garbutt, and local authors including Hilary Robinson and Ian McMillan.
For younger audiences, throughout February half-term, there will be lots of exciting family events across Barnsley to get involved in.
Some other festival highlights include:
- An enchanting evening with acclaimed author Rosie Garland as she introduces her spellbinding new short story collection ‘Your Sons and Your Daughters Are Beyond’.
- An evening in the company of wildlife presenter and nature writer Ajay Tegala, where he will be talking about his experiences as a ranger in the UK, as well as various media appearances, including on BBC Springwatch.
Barnsley Libraries are proud to bringing the second edition of Barnsley Book Festival to the borough, supported using funding from Arts Council England as part of Barnsley Libraries’ National Portfolio Organisation activity.
While most events are free, booking is required to manage audience numbers.
