Make it bloom
The three Yorkshire Roses are incredible floral sculptures that light up, talk and play music. They are free to visit and can be found in Barnsley town centre. They are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but we’d recommend an evening visit to see them in their full glory. Just a few minutes’ walk from the Barnsley bus and train interchange, these fabulous artworks can be your first stop on your next visit to Barnsley.
The central sculpture, 15m tall, is named the 'Mater' (Mother) Rose, and the two 12m sculptures either side are named the 'Pruna' (Glowing Coal) Rose and 'Vitrum' (Glass) Rose, honouring Barnsley’s industrial heritage. The sculptures opened in March 2026.
Take in the amazing light show and sounds of the Yorkshire Roses, sat in the beautiful new urban park. With natural gardens, greenery, benches and well-lit pathways, it’s a calm environment to relax in.
The sculptures have daytime soundscapes and nighttime sound and light shows every day, showing off their intricate designs, colourful displays and impressive sound. At special points throughout the year, we’ll have themed events and shows. Keep scrolling to find out more.

The Seam Digital Campus, DMC01, County Way, Barnsley, S70 2JW
They are an eight-minute drive from the nearest M1 junction. Parking is available at The Seam Upper and Lower car parks, The Glass Works car park, and elsewhere in the town centre. The Yorkshire Roses are a two-minute walk from the Barnsley Interchange, which offers lots of bus and train connections to major towns and cities.

Discover the sounds and stories of Worsbrough Mill through this unique Yorkshire Roses soundscape, voiced by The Next Big Thing. Blending historic voices, operational mill sounds and young people’s interpretations, it takes place every Wednesday at 12pm until 2 September.

Step into story time adventures at the Yorkshire Roses every Thursday. This month’s story is Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell.

Facilities at the Yorkshire Roses
The Yorkshire Roses sculptures are set in an urban park, which has benches and disabled level access. The closest public toilets, with accessible and baby changing, are in Barnsley Interchange. Changing Places toilets can also be found in Barnsley town centre, at The Glass Works car park lobby and in Barnsley Town Hall.
The Seam lower car park has disabled parking spaces, electric car charging, regular car parking spaces, and upgraded CCTV.
Why not make a trip of it? There are fantastic places to stay in Barnsley, and loads of places to shop, eat, and be entertained to make it an incredible Yorkshire weekend destination.
The Seam Digital Campus
The Yorkshire Roses are part of Barnsley’s ambition to be the UK’s leading digital town and the status as the UK’s first government-backed Tech Town. The Seam is situated on the UK’s first Investment Zone and is a space that will bring the public and private sectors together to innovate, stimulating the growth of technology and digital businesses in Barnsley, positioning the town as a forward-thinking hub for creative innovation.
Phase one works on The Seam Digital Campus were delivered using a combination of Future High Streets Funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and council funding.
Phase two plans include the addition of a high-quality hotel, a third Digital Media Centre and a National Centre for Digital Technologies.
