Make it bloom
The three Yorkshire Roses are incredible floral sculptures that light up, talk and play music. They are free to visit and can be found in Barnsley town centre. They are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but we’d recommend an evening visit to see them in their full glory. Just a few minutes’ walk from the Barnsley bus and train interchange, these fabulous artworks can be your first stop on your next visit to Barnsley.
The central sculpture, 15m tall, is named the 'Mater' (Mother) Rose, and the two 12m sculptures either side are named the 'Pruna' (Glowing Coal) Rose and 'Vitrum' (Glass) Rose, honouring Barnsley’s industrial heritage. The sculptures opened in March 2026.
Take in the amazing light show and sounds of the Yorkshire Roses, sat in the beautiful new urban park. With natural gardens, greenery, benches and well-lit pathways, it’s a calm environment to relax in.
The sculptures have daytime soundscapes and nighttime sound and light shows every day, showing off their intricate designs, colourful displays and impressive sound. At special points throughout the year, we’ll have themed events and shows. Keep scrolling to find out more.

The Seam Digital Campus, DMC01, County Way, Barnsley, S70 2JW
They are an eight-minute drive from the nearest M1 junction. Parking is available at The Seam Upper and Lower car parks, The Glass Works car park, and elsewhere in the town centre. The Yorkshire Roses are a two-minute walk from the Barnsley Interchange, which offers lots of bus and train connections to major towns and cities.

Sounds of Nature
Listen to the sounds of nature and take a moment to relax. Hear birds singing, water flowing and other gentle sounds inspired by Barnsley’s natural surroundings. Inspired by the hidden Sow Dyke River beneath the town centre, this experience celebrates Barnsley’s green spaces, rivers and wildlife, helping you feel calm and connected to nature in the heart of town.

Barnsley is Home to Me
A poem based on poetry produced by students as part of Barnsley's Secondary Arts Network Young Poet of the Year interschool poetry competition, led by Fusion and Barnsley's Schools' Alliance.
Written by and featuring students from Astrea Dearne Academy, Holy Trinity, Kirk Balk Academy, Springwell School and Trinity Academy St Edwards. Filmed and edited by Jack Riley, Produced by Sara Mair, Fusion Barnsley’s Cultural Education Partnership and Chris Dyer, Chair, Barnsley Secondary Arts Network. Funded by Barnsley Council.

Halloween at the Roses - 5pm-9pm
Shows commence on the hour and half hour for 8 mins
As darkness falls, the Yorkshire Roses come alive with a Halloween light and sound experience. Expect eerie sounds, colourful lighting and ghostly surprises as the sculptures are transformed for the season. This atmospheric show brings a touch of spooky magic to the town centre.
Monday 2 to Friday 6 November
Bonfire Night: Symphony of Sparks - 5pm-9pm
Shows commence on the hour and half hour for 8 mins
Celebrate Bonfire Night with an exciting light and sound experience at the Yorkshire Roses. Featuring firework-inspired lights, music and atmospheric firework sounds, the display brings the excitement and beauty of fireworks to life in a unique way.
Special thanks to the Barnsley Met Band for their recording of Handel’s Royal Fireworks.
Saturday 7 to 14 November
The Roses Remember - 8:30am, 4.30pm, 6.30pm
The Roses Remember is a moving remembrance project that honours Barnsley men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. By sharing their stories, the project helps preserve their legacy for future generations and ensures their courage and sacrifice are never forgotten.
As we prepare for this special event, we would like to thank everyone involved in the recording sessions, particularly local veterans, Katherine Kelly, Katherine Brunt and Barnsley Lamproom Theatre, whose time, support and dedication have helped bring this important act of remembrance to life. Their contributions will help ensure the experiences, memories and sacrifices of our Armed Forces community continue to be shared and remembered for years to come.

Barnsley Bright Nights: Voicenotes from Barnsley - 5pm - 8.30pm
Yorkshire Roses sees the striking rose sculptures come to life through light and sound, featuring heartfelt voice notes recorded by and for the people of Barnsley.
Rooted in memories of places, people and personal stories, each voice gradually looks ahead to hopes, dreams and ambitions for the future. Illuminated with vibrant light, every voice note tells a unique story, creating an emotional and inspiring experience that celebrates Barnsley’s past, present and future.

Facilities at the Yorkshire Roses
The Yorkshire Roses sculptures are set in an urban park, which has benches and disabled level access. The closest public toilets, with accessible and baby changing, are in Barnsley Interchange. Changing Places toilets can also be found in Barnsley town centre, at The Glass Works car park lobby and in Barnsley Town Hall.
The Seam lower car park has disabled parking spaces, electric car charging, regular car parking spaces, and upgraded CCTV.
Why not make a trip of it? There are fantastic places to stay in Barnsley, and loads of places to shop, eat, and be entertained to make it an incredible Yorkshire weekend destination.
The Seam Digital Campus
The Yorkshire Roses are part of Barnsley’s ambition to be the UK’s leading digital town and the status as the UK’s first government-backed Tech Town. The Seam is situated on the UK’s first Investment Zone and is a space that will bring the public and private sectors together to innovate, stimulating the growth of technology and digital businesses in Barnsley, positioning the town as a forward-thinking hub for creative innovation.
Phase one works on The Seam Digital Campus were delivered using a combination of Future High Streets Funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and council funding.
Phase two plans include the addition of a high-quality hotel, a third Digital Media Centre and a National Centre for Digital Technologies.
