Start your holidays with a visit to our cosy Christmas Tipi with hot mulled wine and live music. The family-friendly venue will be located near the Tommy Taylor Memorial Bridge, in Barnsley town centre, from Thursday 14 November until Tuesday 7 January.
December isn't complete without a visit to a Christmas Market though and Barnsley has more than one to attend!
From Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 December, you'll find unique gifts, crafts, and tasty treats in the Glass Works Square.
Then, on Sunday 15 December, Elsecar Heritage Centre will host 25 festive stalls at its own market.

Christmas Shopping
This festive season, make Barnsley your go-to destination for Christmas shopping!
Discover a range of high street retailers and independents at The Glass Works and Alhambra shopping centres, where you’ll find everything from the latest fashion trends to must-have gadgets. Both centres will extend their opening hours until 7pm on Friday 6 December and Saturday 7 December. Barnsley Indoor Market will remain open until 6pm on both days and will be open from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 8 December.
But the magic doesn’t stop there; take a stroll down our high streets to uncover a treasure trove of incredible independent shops. Discover unique, handcrafted gifts that will make your loved ones’ eyes light up on Christmas morning.
With its blend of big brands and charming boutiques, Barnsley offers a shopping experience that is both convenient and stress-free!
Travel into the town centre is easy, with a conveniently located bus and train interchange, plus loads of car parks. Parking on weekends and bank holidays is free for up to three hours in off-street car parks, not including the Glass Works and Alhambra car parks. Whenever you park you will always need a ticket, even when it is free. Please always check the signs in the car park if you have any doubt.

Don't miss out on our thrilling pantomimes, full of music, laughter, and audience participation. They are perfect for families and add some sparkle to the season.
Our town is home to SIX pantomimes in 2024! "Six? Oh no it isn't! Oh yes it is!"
In the town centre, The Lamproom Theatre is home to Sleeping Beauty while the recently regenerated Barnsley Civic is hosting Jack & The Beanstalk.
Across the borough, you can also see Jack & The Beanstalk at The Academy Theatre in Birdwell, Cinderella at Playhouse Theatre in Womwell, Step Into Christmas at Penistone Paramount and Snow White at the newly restored Dearne Valley Playhouse in Goldthorpe!
