Throughout September, Wentworth Castle Gardens are hosting a variety of outdoor activities, suitable for all ages and interests!
House Tours at Wentworth Castle - 5 September,
Have you ever wanted to peek inside the grand Wentworth Castle? Now’s your chance!
Take a peek inside the grand house at the centre of the estate on a select number of volunteer-led tours through Wentworth Castle, now Northern College.
- Time: The tours will run from 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, and 1.30pm each day that the house is open to the public. The tours are expected to last 75-90 minutes.
- Price: Tickets are £8, plus normal admission. Booking is essential.
Bat walks - 11 and 18 September
Join the team to learn about the different species of bats that call Wentworth Castle Gardens home. There will be an opportunity to have a go with a bat detector and discover more about these fascinating creatures.
There will be a 30-40 minute talk before heading off on the walk at sunset so this event is best suited to older children and adults.
Please note for this evening event you will use the Northern College visitor carpark, postcode S75 3ES, where we will meet you and guide you to the conservatory. Our main National Trust visitor carpark will be locked at 5pm.

Walk with a Gardener - Weeds, friend or foe? - 17 September
Are common weeds a friend or foe to our gardens?
Join this gentle circular walk through the John Arnold and Union Jack Gardens looking at the different weeds and learning about their positives and negatives.
Our gardener will share their top tips on what to encourage or remove in your own garden at home.

Step into history walks - Parkland Monuments - 19 September
Head out into the parkland on a friendly volunteer-led walk to learn about the way in which Thomas and William Wentworth shaped their wider estate.
The route will take in all of the significant monuments and features in the parkland: the Duke of Argyll monument, the Rotunda, Queen Anne obelisk, Serpentine and Palladian bridge. There will also be plenty of opportunity to ask questions, meet others and enjoy the views and the wildlife.
