Set Sail for Creativity and Fun This Summer!
Get ready to embark on a swashbuckling week of creativity, imagination, and summer adventure at The Alhambra Shopping Centre! From the 11 – 17 August, the centre will be hosting Pirate and Beach themed arts and crafts activities, perfect for families, children, and anyone looking to unleash their artistic spirit.
With a packed calendar of hands-on workshops, interactive installations, and a spectacular parade finale, there’s something for everyone to enjoy—so mark your diaries and get ready to make memories!
Daily Workshops & Activities
Here’s what you can expect throughout the week. Morning sessions will take place 10am-12pm and Afternoon sessions from 1-3pm each day.
Monday and Tuesday – Pirates and Mermaids Painting Workshop
Morning: Pirates and mermaids painting workshop for small shapes and masks to take home. This session is especially suitable for young children, who will delight in painting their own pirate or mermaid masks and shapes to keep as a memento.
Afternoon: Painting workshop for big shapes for the parade. Help create the centrepiece artworks that will form the heart of our celebratory parade through the shopping centre
Wednesday and Thursday – Create Pirate Hats and Mermaid Headbands
Take part in workshops where you can make your own pirate hats, mermaid headbands, and “Fish on Lines” collages— all to take home. Children can let their imaginations run wild as they fashion accessories fit for any pirate crew or mermaid cove, as well as colourful fish creations to hang at home.
Friday – Pirates and Mermaids Painting Workshop

Saturday – The big parade
Morning: come along and create shakers and kazoos ready for parade!
Afternoon – All are invited to join the grand parade through The Alhambra Shopping Centre. Featuring the large-scale artworks and banners crafted during the workshops, the parade is a joyous celebration of the community’s creativity. Come along in costume, wave your handmade creations, and be part of a spectacular procession that brings together families, artists, and shoppers of all ages.
Sunday – Small shapes workshop and artwork installation
Morning – Small shapes painting workshop for children. The team will then display the artwork made over the week.
Exhibition and Photo Opportunities
A special highlight of the week is the temporary art exhibition, with a display of artwork produced throughout the festival.
For those wanting to capture the fun, the photobooth provides the perfect spot for a quick snapshot. Dress up in pirate and mermaid accessories, strike a pose with your handmade crafts, and take home a photo to remember the day!
