Barnsley’s Big Weekend

Barnsley’s Big Weekend returns to the town centre in July with an exciting, packed line-up of free events and entertainment, with something for everyone.


The thrilling event will feature Barnsley Pride, a family #WhatsYourMove sports day, and the return of the popular Brassed On! Festival, amongst other exciting activities. All activities are free, tickets not required.

Brassed On! 

Start the weekend on Saturday 13 July, with the return of popular Brassed On! brass music festival in the Glass Works Square between 10.30am – 5pm. Full line-up is now confirmed:

The Glass Works Square – Main Stage

11am: Barnsley Metropolitan Band
12.15pm: Backstage Brass
1.30pm: Yorkshire Imperial Band
2.45pm: Band Pres Llareggub
4pm: Grimethorpe Colliery Band

Library at the Lightbox - Marvellous Music Makers Stage

10.30am: Barnsley Intermediate Band
12noon: Civic Fusion
1.30pm: Barnsley Town Concert Band
3pm: Backstage Brass

Appearances by Frumptarn Guggenband and Global Grooves throughout the day.

Young visitors will also be able to enjoy the Summer Reading Challenge at the library, with stories, activities and a chance to sign up to the challenge.

 

Barnsley Pride

Barnsley Pride 2024 will mark its 14th year in the town on Saturday 13 July.

Celebrating the visibility, equality and inclusion of our LGBTQIA+ community in Barnsley, this year’s entertainment will include returning headline acts such as DJ Stephanie Hirst, Smashby and main stage host, Jamie Campbell. 

Also included in the line-up is Sweet Female Attitude, best known for her chart hit song, ‘Flowers’.

Performances will start on the main stage in Mandela Gardens from 12pm, alongside an open acoustic stage and pride related craft sessions within The Civic and an 18+ stage in The Garrison from 1pm.

What's Your Move?

Shake up your Sunday on 14 July from 11am to 4pm with Barnsley's most dynamic event, 'What's Your Move' day.

The Glass Works Square and Cheapside will burst into life with sports, dance, and a roller disco!

Ramp up your bike and scooter skills, take part in a game of tennis or pickleball and take to the big climbing wall. Try out Taekwondo, mulitisports and athletics, exercise classes and more.

Roll back the years with a Roller Disco (for ages 4+) and enjoy the fun Anyone for Tennis street theatre show and fun 80s PE teachers that are sure to get you laughing.

•  Barnsley Premier Leisure (BPL): Exercise classes and Athletics, plus indoor Kurling with U3A Barnsley

  • Roller Disco: Get your skates and your leg warmers on and take to the roller rink! 
  • Dance Dojo: Street dance with Art of PALM
  • Parkour: with NovaCity

Street Entertainment

•    Anyone for Tennis: You cannot be serious! A hilarious but thrilling ‘one setter’ with slow motion replays, tantrums and live commentary.
•    Sports Day: 80’s PE teachers, Mr Stretch and Mr Armstrong get the nation fit using their roving musical pommel horse.
