Your guide to summer fun in Barnsley town centre

Looking for ways to keep the family entertained during the summer holidays? Barnsley town centre is packed with exciting activities, attractions and events for all ages throughout August.

At the Alhambra, children can get creative with 14 days of free family activities from 3–16 August, including making colourful summer and sea creature collages using eco-friendly recycled materials.


From bright beach scenes to underwater creations, it's a great opportunity for children to let their imaginations run wild while enjoying some hands-on holiday fun.


Meanwhile, The Glass Works Square will come alive from 7–30 August with the return of Summer in the Square.

Families can enjoy a traditional helter skelter, bungee trampoline and a fun-filled nine-hole crazy golf course, alongside face painting every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.


Visitors can also treat themselves to a visit from Milk from the Hills, serving up its popular ultra-fresh milkshakes and weekly special flavours throughout summer in the Square.

Young Traders Market – 8 August
Support the next generation of entrepreneurs as talented young traders showcase their products, ideas and businesses in The Glass Works Square.


Artisan Market – 15 and 16 August
Browse incredible independent traders, tuck into amazing street food, discover handmade gifts and enjoy plenty of sweet treats. With a fantastic atmosphere throughout the weekend, it's the perfect place to shop, eat and spend quality time with friends and family.


Barnsley's Great Family Festival – 22 August
A brilliant day of free activities, entertainment and family fun for children and young people of all ages.
