Taking place in Yorkshire for the first time, the festival transforms Barnsley into a stage for exciting new ideas and artworks by artists from the UK and around the world. Visitors are invited to experience familiar places in a completely new way.

Who are AND Festival?

Produced by arts organisation Abandon Normal Devices (AND), the festival is known for bringing artists and creative minds into unexpected places across the North.

Each festival takes place in a different location, exploring the people, places and stories that make it unique. Previous festivals have taken place on the Manchester Ship Canal, in the caves of the Peak District and among the trees of Grizedale Forest.

The festival arrives at an exciting time for Barnsley, celebrating the borough's growing reputation for innovation, creativity and cultural experiences.

A flavour of what to expect

At The Glass Works, visitors can step into Jazmin Morris' multi-platform game, Northern Passage, set against the backdrop of the busy indoor market.

At Barnsley Civic, Dian Joy's multi-screen film installation explores an imagined shopping centre that never came to be, creating a fascinating look at alternative futures.

Over in Elsecar, the historic iron rolling mill at Elsecar Heritage Centre becomes the setting for MONOM's immersive 4D audio experience, inspired by the area's industrial heritage and changing landscape.

Through digital art, immersive installations, film, games and sound, AND Festival invites visitors to see Barnsley in a different way. Whether you're a fan of digital art and technology or simply looking to try something new, there's plenty to discover.
