- 02/07/25
Barnsley town centre is set to come alive on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 July with the return of Barnsley’s Big Weekend.
The event promises two action-packed days of free entertainment and activities for all ages.
This year’s programme features the much-loved Brassed On! festival, bringing nine incredible bands to The Glass Works Square and Library @ the Lightbox between 10.30am and 4pm.
From the world famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band to the high-energy Mr Wilson’s Second Liners, this event is one not to be missed.
Meanwhile, Barnsley Libraries will be inviting families to make their own music in the giant Story Shell and listen to stories from Greta’s Glorious Garden whilst signing up to the Summer Reading Challenge.
Saturday also sees the return of Barnsley Pride in Mandela Gardens and the Barnsley Civic from 12pm.
Celebrate their 15th anniversary with live music, drag shows, family crafts and a brand-new ‘Pride After Dark’ party at Funny Gals on Wellington Street.
On Sunday, the spotlight turns to movement and wellbeing with the What’s Your Move family sports day in The Glass Works Square and Cheapside.
From circus skills and martial arts to archery and street dance, there’s something for everyone to try – including the giant Actual Reality Arcade where you bring classic arcade games to life.
Councillor Robin Franklin, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture at Barnsley Council, said: “It’s fantastic to see Barnsley’s Big Weekend return with such a vibrant and inclusive programme.
“Free events like these enhance the vibrancy of our already lively town centre and offer something for all the family to enjoy.”
“Why not make a weekend of it and book a staycation in Barnsley to experience our wonderful restaurants and leisure offer during your visit.”
