Pride of Yorkshire art trail

This summer, Barnsley is joining the roar as part of Pride of Yorkshire, a free sculpture trail celebrating 150 years of Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Whether you’re discovering lions in city centres, hidden gems or iconic locations, Pride of Yorkshire is your chance to explore South Yorkshire in a whole new way this summer. Don’t miss out on one of the UK’s biggest free public art trails!

MAKE IT ROARSOME

Twenty life-sized lion and lioness sculptures can be discovered across Barnsley, forming part of a trail of 150 large sculptures and 150 lion cubs across South Yorkshire. Designed by artists, schools and community groups, the trail offers families and visitors a fun, free way to explore Barnsley and beyond this summer while helping raise vital funds towards the redevelopment of Sheffield Children’s Hospital’s Emergency Department.

How to get involved

  • Plan your adventure: Find lions near you on the trail website
  • Pick up a trail map: Physical trail maps are available from selected merchandise outlets and visitor locations. If you’re in Barnsley, trail maps are available from the Visitor Centre at Elsecar Heritage Centre and the shop at Experience Barnsley Museum, or you can find your nearest pick-up point here.
  • Support Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity: Buy official merchandise or make a donation to help transform emergency care for children and young people.
  • Join the farewell: After the trail, the lions will be back together for a big farewell event at Meadowhall, before being auctioned to raise vital funds for Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity.
  • Share your journey: Post your photos using #PrideOfYorkshire

The trail is free to enjoy and runs throughout the summer, until early September.
